Power-Up / Power-Down vs Spring Retraction
Power-Up / Power-Down

More compact, eliminates the space required for
retract springs.

Jack retract is faster in cold weather.

If jacks freeze to ground hydraulic power will
normally break them loose.

If jack penetrates asphalt, soft ground etc.
hydraulic power will normally retract the jack.

Ice, snow, mud etc. has little effect on jack.

Spring Retraction

Lower Cost, eliminates the honed tubing, piston
and one hydraulic line.

Jacks will normally retract down to -30° F. At -30°
F retract time is approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

If jacks freeze to ground gently moving vehicle
forward and reverse will normally break them
loose. (See note 1.)

If jack penetrates asphalt, soft ground etc. gently
moving vehicle forward and reverse will normally
allow the jacks to retract.

Ice snow mud etc. can hinder jack retraction.
Washing in water normally resolves problem.

Note 1
Trailers equipped with power-up/power-down landing gear and spring return jacks on rear can free rear spring
return jacks stuck to ground by lowering front jacks. Lowering the front jacks causes the trailer to pivot on the
axle raising the rear thus pulling rear jacks out of the ground.
